The Canisius College men’s hockey program has once again demonstrated that athletic prowess and academic distinction can go hand in hand. For the 2025‑26 academic year, a total of 25 Golden Griffins earned spots on the Atlantic Hockey America All‑Academic Team, a distinction reserved for student‑athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher across both semesters.
A Record‑Breaking Academic Squad
Among those honorees, eight athletes posted a flawless 4.0 GPA, a feat that earned them the additional honor of being named AHA Student‑Athletes of the Year. The group includes graduate student Nick Strom, seniors Josh Phillips and Kash Rasmussen, junior Joe Messina, sophomores Luke Marshall and Hunter Price, as well as freshmen FJ Buteau and Kyan Haldenby.
Six Years of Consistency
This marks the sixth straight season that the Golden Griffins have placed multiple Student‑Athletes of the Year on the All‑Academic roster, establishing a program record for the most honorees in a single year. The sustained success reflects a recruiting and support framework that prioritizes both athletic performance and scholarly achievement.
Beyond individual accolades, the recognition underscores the collaborative efforts of the Atlantic Hockey America conference, Canisius College, and the broader university community in fostering an environment where student‑athletes can excel academically while competing at the highest level.
Looking Ahead
With another record‑setting academic year under their belts, the Griffins are poised to carry this momentum into upcoming competitions, aiming to translate their classroom discipline into on‑ice dominance.
