Pitt outfielder's stellar season earns national recognition and community service honor

Lorenzo Carrier, a standout outfielder for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, has been selected as a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, two of the most prestigious honors in amateur baseball.

A season of milestones

Carrier’s numbers this year are eye‑catching: he is batting .398 with 68 hits, 62 runs batted in, 59 runs scored, 18 home runs and 13 doubles, while slugging .813 and posting a 1.362 OPS. He leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in walks with 51, and his 68 hits and 51 walks have already set new program records for a single season.

Beyond the diamond, Carrier is a finalist for the 2026 Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy, recognizing his contributions off the field. He has also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District, Academic All‑ACC and ACC Academic Honor Roll honors, underscoring his commitment to scholarship.

Fan voting for the Golden Spikes Award will remain open until June 28, with the winner to be announced on June 29. The Panthers close out their regular season with a home series against Notre Dame beginning May 14 at 6 p.m., a matchup that could add another chapter to Carrier’s record‑breaking year.
