A former Winnipeg hockey coach has been handed a six‑year prison term after being convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage player.
The offences date back to 2019, when the victim was just 15, and continued until 2021, a period during which the coach exploited his position of trust.
Madison Biluk initially faced a slate of fifteen charges, but ultimately pleaded guilty to the offences of luring and sexual assault, a move that streamlined the case for the court.
Abuse of Authority in Youth Sports
Provincial court Judge Jerilee Ryle underscored that Biluk had leveraged his authority and influence to groom the young athlete, describing the conduct as a calculated abuse of power.
In her sentencing remarks, the judge emphasized the profound emotional and psychological damage inflicted on the victim, noting that the repercussions continue to ripple through the player's life.
