A Harrowing Encounter in Glacier National Park
Daniel Crago, a 32‑year‑old professional baseball player from San Diego, was trekking through Montana’s Glacier National Park when a grizzly bear launched a sudden assault.
The bear seized his right arm, tearing flesh and crushing the bones of his forearm, and dragged him nearly twenty feet before releasing its grip.
Although the animal did not wound his wrist or elbow, the injury was severe enough to threaten the use of his dominant hand and, consequently, his athletic career.
Crago’s baseball résumé includes stints with several Major League Baseball franchises, most notably the Detroit Tigers and the San Diego Padres, teams he represented during a career that began after his collegiate years.
Following the attack, he endured multiple surgical procedures to repair the damaged arm and is now recuperating in San Diego, where his family reports he remains in considerable pain but is steadily improving.
A fundraising campaign launched to offset his medical expenses has already approached the $60,000 target, reflecting the outpouring of support from fans, teammates and the broader community.
George Crago, his father, has spoken publicly about the family’s gratitude, emphasizing that his son’s spirit remains unbroken and that he intends to return to outdoor activities once fully healed.
