The Davis girls basketball program cemented its recent dominance by capturing its second consecutive state championship in 2025, a feat that also earned the squad the prestigious Team of the Year award at the Yakima Valley Sports Awards.
Guiding both the boys and girls wrestling squads to state titles was Coach Richard Sanchez of Granger, whose dual leadership underscored a remarkable season for the school’s athletic department.
Girls Wrestling Makes History
The girls wrestling team celebrated its first state championship in school history, driven by freshman phenom Vanessa Torres, who rattled off 23 straight victories in the 100‑pound bracket.
At 106 pounds, sophomore Dominic Deleon Castaneda secured a state title for the boys team, helping them dethrone three‑time champions Tonasket by a narrow margin of 7.5 points.
Both programs tested themselves against top competition, traveling to events such as the HammerHead and Gut Check invitationals, and the basketball team finished the season unbeaten in Washington, never losing in 17 games highlighted by Eastern Washington signee Deets Parrish.
The twin triumphs reflect a growing powerhouse culture in the region, setting high expectations for the next generation of athletes.
