A Historic Run
The Fairfield Union baseball team began the season with two defeats, but a steady mentality and a blend of seasoned seniors and emerging underclassmen sparked a turnaround that saw them win ten straight games.
Their resurgence culminated in a gritty 2‑1 victory over Gallia Academy in eight innings, delivering the program’s first district championship since 1999, and a walk‑off single by junior Dylan Chilcote that sent the Falcons to the regional tournament.
The squad then posted a 5‑2 win against Logan Elm in a regional semifinal before rallying from a 2‑0 deficit to defeat Richmond Edison 5‑2 in ten innings, showcasing resilience in extra‑inning drama.
On Saturday, June 13, at 1 p.m., Fairfield Union will meet Franklin Bishop Fenwick in the Division IV state semifinal, marking the team’s first appearance in the championship event in four decades.
Head coach Scott Burke, whose own playing days were tied to the 1986 team that finished as state runners‑up, praised the community’s support and the players’ commitment as they prepare for the next challenge.
