A Recruitment Reversal
Iowa women's basketball has reoffered a scholarship to Jhaliana Guy, a 2028 four‑star guard from Clinton, Iowa, after she decided to reopen her recruitment following a commitment to Stanford. The Hawkeyes first extended the offer on July 23, 2024, and the renewed interest comes as the program looks to solidify its 2028 class.
Guy’s ranking adds another layer of intrigue. ESPN places her at No. 16 nationally among prospects in the 2028 cycle, underscoring the impact of her breakout performance last season.
High School Excellence
During the previous campaign she averaged 24.4 points per game and knocked down 87 three‑pointers, establishing new school records and becoming the first Clinton Red Queen to earn first‑team All‑State honors in more than two decades.
A Broader Recruiting Picture
Beyond Iowa, Guy has also received scholarship invitations from Michigan, USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Maryland and Illinois, reflecting the wide‑ranging appeal of her skill set. She competes in the AAU circuit for Mac Irvin Lady Fire on the P24 circuit, a platform that has helped elevate her visibility.
Recently, she was invited to the USA Basketball U17 National Team trials, where she joined 21 other athletes as a finalist, a testament to her emerging status on the national stage.
The Hawkeyes’ decision to reextend the scholarship not only rewards Guy’s on‑court achievements but also signals a strategic move to stay ahead in a competitive recruiting landscape. With a blend of elite shooting, playmaking and poise, she could become a cornerstone for Iowa’s future successes.
