Freshman Outfielder Makes History
Anthony Pack Jr., an outfielder for the Texas Longhorns, was recently crowned the National Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, a distinction that places him among the most celebrated newcomers in collegiate baseball.
His achievement marks the fifth time a Longhorn has earned the honor and underscores the program's third consecutive cycle of producing a Freshman of the Year, a feat unmatched by any other Power Four school.
Record‑Breaking Performance
During the 2026 season Pack Jr. topped the Power Four in stolen bases and ranked near the summit in batting average, on‑base percentage, OPS and several other key metrics. He became the first SEC freshman to post a .400 average in conference play since 2016, and his three‑homer postseason game set a new standard for Texas players.
The outfielder also logged 11 home runs and 52 runs batted in, while his 20 stolen bases stand as the most by a Longhorn freshman since 2004. His .400 conference average and top‑ranked on‑base percentage highlight a season that has already drawn comparisons to past Texas greats.
Recognition Beyond the Diamond
Earlier in the week, Pack Jr. received NCBWA Freshman All‑American honors, further cementing his status as a top prospect. The accolades reflect not only individual excellence but also the growing depth of talent within the Longhorns roster.
