Mark Garrity Takes the Helm of Malden Catholic Boys Basketball

After 16 years of service, the longtime assistant is appointed head coach, aiming to build on recent success

A Fresh Start for the Lancers

Mark Garrity has been named the new head coach of the Malden Catholic High School boys basketball program, taking over a team that finished the 2025‑26 season with a 15‑7 record and a No. 1 ranking in Division I.

The appointment follows a 16‑year stint in which Garrity served as an assistant and, for the final season, as interim head coach, guiding the Lancers to an 11‑0 start and the top spot in the state rankings.

Before joining Malden Catholic, Garrity built his coaching résumé at Danvers High School, Central Catholic High School and Fitchburg State University, while his playing days at Somersville High School and collegiately at Anna Maria College, Framingham State and Salem State gave him a deep appreciation for the student‑athlete experience.

In his first remarks after the announcement, Garrity expressed gratitude to the school community and outlined a commitment to sustaining the program’s competitive edge while emphasizing the development of character and leadership among his players.

Malden Catholic, a private, all‑boys, college‑preparatory institution in Malden, Massachusetts, is known for rigorous academics, strong athletics and a mission that blends spiritual growth with service, preparing its graduates for higher education and beyond.

The school’s leadership believes Garrity’s blend of experience, continuity and passion positions the program to remain a contender in the coming seasons.
