Mark Carbone Joins Concordia University Irvine Men’s Basketball Staff

Former NCAA D1 player brings extensive coaching experience to the Christian institution

A Strategic Addition to the Golden Eagles Coaching Staff

Concordia University Irvine announced this week that Mark Carbone has been appointed as the new assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, a move that underscores the university’s commitment to elevating its athletic profile within the NCAA Division I landscape.

Carbone arrives after a productive tenure at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut, where he served as assistant head coach and helped the Eagles achieve an 11‑9 conference record while climbing into the Top 5 of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rankings.

Prior to his time at Post, Carbone spent three seasons at Citrus College in Glendora, California, guiding the team to an average of 90 points per game and a .840 win percentage, a period that also saw him direct summer basketball camps that raised nearly $100,000 for the program.

A graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Master of Science in Sport Management from California Baptist University, Carbone also brings a D1 playing background from stints at San Diego State University, the University of New Hampshire and California Baptist University.

Head coach Scott Clark praised the hire, highlighting Carbone’s basketball acumen, leadership qualities and the unique perspective he will bring to the program’s offensive schemes and player development.

Carbone expressed enthusiasm about joining a Christian institution and emphasized his desire to mentor young athletes both on the court and in their personal growth, aiming to lay a strong foundation for the program’s future success.
