The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has given its seal of approval to a new naming arrangement for Georgia State University’s upcoming baseball stadium.
The facility will be known as Chastain Childers Field at Bill and Susan Reeves Stadium, a title that reflects a dual tribute to two families whose contributions have shaped the university’s athletic landscape.
Honoring a Hero
Bill Reeves, a 1959 graduate with a degree in business, and his wife Susan have been among the most steadfast supporters of Georgia State Athletics for decades, providing both financial backing and leadership through the William "Bill" Reeves Society.
The field itself carries the name of Anderson "Chase" Childers, a former Panther who earned four letters, contributed to the 2009 conference championship team, and later served as a Cobb County police officer whose bravery earned him a Life Saving Award, the Carnegie Medal for Heroism and a posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor.
Childers’ legacy will be remembered not only for his on‑field prowess but also for the courage he displayed off the diamond, a story that resonates with the university community and beyond.
The stadium is slated to open its doors in 2027, promising a venue that blends modern amenities with a narrative steeped in generosity, athletic excellence and public service.
