Matt Hobbs, the longtime pitching coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks, has been selected to lead the pitching staff of the Stars Team at the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, a program that assembles the nation’s most promising arms under one roof.
A Strategic Split in the Coaching Roster
The camp’s staff will be divided into two squads — Stars and Stripes — each overseeing a series of exhibition games that will culminate in a Stars versus Stripes matchup. This format allows the organization to evaluate talent under competitive conditions while fostering a collaborative environment among the nation’s top pitching minds.
Hobbs will join a distinguished group of five coaches, including Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb, in a tour that will take the team to Taichung City, Taiwan, where they will face Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Korea. Over his tenure at Arkansas, Hobbs has shepherded numerous standout pitchers, most notably 2021 Golden Spikes Award winner Kevin Kopps and 2024 unanimous national pitcher of the year Hagen Smith. Under his guidance the Razorbacks have captured four SEC Western Division titles and made three appearances at the College World Series, achievements that have cemented his reputation as one of college baseball’s premier pitching developers.
