Will Holt Returns as Associate Head Coach for Indiana Field Hockey

A seasoned player and coach brings international experience and leadership back to the Hoosiers program.

Will Holt is set to rejoin the Indiana University field hockey program as associate head coach, a move that underscores the Hoosiers’ commitment to blending experience with fresh perspective.

Holt first served as an assistant coach during the 2020‑21 season, helping the team to a ten‑win campaign, and now returns after stints at Maryland and his alma mater, the University of Louisville, where he contributed to two NCAA Tournament appearances and guided several players to NFHCA All‑America and All‑Region honors.

From Player to Coach

Beyond the collegiate ranks, Holt enjoyed a distinguished international career, earning 147 caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team between 2008 and 2024 and scoring 85 goals. He captained the side from 2014 to 2017, led the team to multiple gold medals in international tournaments, and helped the United States capture the inaugural Hockey5s Pan American Cup in 2023.

His coaching credentials include a USA Field Hockey Level 3 certification earned in 2022 and service on the organization’s Judicial Committee since 2017. Prior to his European coaching roles with Royal Oreé T.H.B U16 Boys in Brussels and club positions in the Netherlands, Germany and England, Holt obtained a bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance from Louisville and a master’s in Athletic Administration in 2016.

What This Means for Indiana

Holt’s return is expected to reinforce the program’s recruiting pipeline and tactical development, drawing on his extensive playing background and proven leadership in high‑pressure environments. Athletic Director Kayla Bashore, along with senior staff such as Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb, will work closely with him to integrate his global insights into the Hoosiers’ strategy.

The move also aligns with the university’s broader ambition to expand its field hockey footprint, leveraging partnerships with USA Field Hockey and drawing on the expertise of the sport’s governing bodies to elevate the team’s competitive edge.
