Colorado Mesa University's club hockey team marked its ninth annual Pink the Rink fundraiser in Grand Junction with a record‑breaking $38,000 contribution to local cancer charities, bringing the cumulative total since 2016 to $240,000.
A Community‑Driven Tradition
Beyond the on‑ice action, the event has evolved into a multi‑faceted celebration, featuring t‑shirt sales, jersey raffles, silent auctions, concerts and kickoff gatherings at nearby breweries, all aimed at engaging residents and amplifying support for patients across the Western Slope.
Every dollar raised is earmarked for direct assistance to families battling cancer, ensuring that contributions translate into tangible help for those most affected in the region.
On‑Ice Triumph and National Recognition
The team also secured a 2‑1 victory over Grand Canyon University in front of the largest crowd in the event’s history, a win that underscored the growing popularity of the initiative. The achievement added to CMU Hockey’s collection of accolades, including four American Collegiate Hockey Association National Community Service Awards and the U.S. Congressional Community Service Award.
Assistant Athletic Director Reese Kegans and Graduate Assistant Felix Maurer were highlighted for their leadership in organizing and expanding the fundraiser, reflecting the collaborative effort that drives its continued success.
