A New Era for Michigan Tech Women's Basketball
Michigan Technological University announced this week that Evie Wolshire has been appointed assistant coach of the women's basketball program, bringing a blend of playing pedigree and coaching experience to the Houghton campus.
Wolshire arrives after two seasons as a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she contributed to practice design, student‑athlete development and game preparation while also aiding in recruiting efforts.
Head coach Eric Gruber praised the new hire, highlighting her work ethic and ability to connect with players. “Evie’s basketball IQ and her knack for building relationships will be invaluable as we continue to elevate our program,” Gruber said.
In her introductory remarks, Wolshire expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting her excitement to join the Michigan Tech community and contribute to the team’s growth.
Before her coaching roles, Wolshire interned with the Wittenberg Athletic Department, handling scheduling and community outreach, and she previously captained the women's team at Wittenberg University, leading them to two conference titles and a tournament championship.
A native of Lancaster, Ohio, Wolshire earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from Wittenberg and still holds the school record for single‑game assists with eleven. Her playing background adds a unique perspective to her coaching approach.
The addition of Wolshire is expected to deepen the program’s recruiting pipeline and strengthen community ties, positioning Michigan Tech for a competitive future in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
