Denison University announced this week that Jalen Rhea will join the men's basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2026‑27 season. The hiring brings a blend of competitive success and academic insight to the Big Red's staff.
A Proven Track Record
Rhea comes to Granville after a stint at Gettysburg College, where he contributed to a program that captured the 2026 regular‑season and tournament Centennial Conference titles. The Bullets also advanced to the NCAA tournament in both 2025 and 2026, and the coaching staff earned Centennial Conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2026.
Beyond the sidelines, Rhea holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in marketing from American University, where he also earned four varsity letters on the men's basketball team. As a member of the 2013‑14 squad, he helped secure a Patriot League Championship and participated in the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Sullivan's Praise
Head Coach Chris Sullivan highlighted Rhea's passion for developing young athletes and his nuanced understanding of the balance between academics and athletics. "Jalen brings a rare combination of competitive drive and scholarly perspective that aligns perfectly with Denison's mission," Sullivan said in the announcement.
Sullivan added that Rhea's experience across multiple championship environments will help the Big Red continue to raise the program's standard, both on the court and in the classroom. The university believes his background will enrich recruiting efforts and player development.
Looking Ahead
Rhea's arrival marks a strategic move for Denison as it seeks to sustain momentum in a competitive conference. With a blend of championship experience, academic rigor, and a player‑first mindset, the new assistant coach is poised to contribute to the program's growth in the coming seasons.
