Tracy McGrady’s love for basketball traces back to the modest courts of Auburndale, a small town in Polk County where he first chased a dream that would eventually land him among the NBA’s elite.
The seed of his ambition was planted when Sonny Vaccaro invited the young McGrady to the legendary ABCD Camp, a proving ground that launched countless careers. Inspired by that experience, McGrady later created the Ones Basketball League, a platform aimed at giving under‑the‑radar talents a stage to shine.
A showcase of talent and opportunity
Now in its second spring, the OBL features one‑on‑one matchups across eight cities, each team backed by notable owners such as Vince Carter, Muggsy Bogues and NBA guard Jaylen Brown. The league’s format pits the best street‑ball talent against one another in a fast‑paced, high‑stakes environment.
The centerpiece of the tour will arrive in Orlando on June 12, when the league’s “Standing 6′′ competition takes over Oak Ridge High School. Doors will swing open at 6 p.m., and six teams will battle for a cash prize, with only the top four advancing to the next round.
McGrady’s own media tour brought him to News 6, where Sports Director Jamie Seh sat down with the former All‑Star to discuss the league’s vision. Describing the OBL as his “brainchild,” McGrady emphasized that the event is as much about community uplift as it is about competition.
