Fans across Utah gathered on Thursday to mark the opening of the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, turning public spaces into lively viewing zones.
A Festival of Soccer in Sandy
The centerpiece of the celebration was a sprawling watch party outside America First Field in Sandy, where the plaza was transformed into a festival‑like setting.
Food trucks served tacos and empanadas, children played in a bright bounce house, and a series of games kept the atmosphere buzzing between matches.
Andres Valadez, who relocated from Mexico to Sandy in 2016, said the gathering felt like a piece of home, noting how rare such communal celebrations are in Utah.
Organizers announced they will roll out additional watch parties throughout the tournament, with a special event planned for the U.S. men’s national team match on Friday night.
Looking Ahead to Friday’s Match
Several Salt Lake City‑area bars have also confirmed they will broadcast the games, extending the communal viewing experience beyond the stadium plaza.
