John Andrews, a longtime volunteer coach with the River Soccer Club in Frankford, Delaware, was recently named the 2025 Delaware Youth Soccer Association Volunteer of the Year, recognizing his two‑decade commitment to nurturing young talent on and off the field.
A Legacy in the Making
The River Soccer Club, which began with just 48 players in 1996, has expanded into a thriving community of over 900 participants, a growth that Andrews has helped drive through relentless dedication and hands‑on leadership.
Beyond guiding his twin daughters and other teams, Andrews stresses the transformative power of sport, believing that soccer can instill confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging in the region’s youth.
A native of the Bethesda, Maryland area, Andrews now balances his coaching duties with a senior enterprise learning role at NetCom Learning, while eagerly anticipating his first World Cup match in Philadelphia later this summer.
His wife, Kortney Andrews, serves on the club’s board of directors, underscoring a family partnership that blends personal passion with community stewardship.
Colleagues and players alike speak of his infectious enthusiasm; Rebecca Mais, a fellow coach, notes that Andrews’ presence elevates every practice, while Patrick Hughes, a longtime teammate, recalls the excitement of watching the Indian River High girls’ DIAA tournament quarterfinal that Andrews and his RSC players attended.
