Florida A&M Coach Bridgette Gordon Launches Youth Basketball Camps to Build Local Talent

Two June camps on the Tallahassee campus aim to develop players from elementary through high school, with current FAMU athletes assisting in hands‑on training.

Camp Schedule and Community Impact

Bridgette Gordon, the head coach of Florida A&M’s women’s basketball program, is set to host two youth basketball camps this June, aiming to nurture local talent and expand the sport’s reach in the community.

The first camp, a prospect session for eighth‑graders through high school seniors, will take place on Saturday, June 13, at 9 a.m. on the FAMU campus. A second skills camp, open to children in first through seventh grade, will run from June 23 to June 26, also beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Both camps are co‑ed, cost $90 per participant, and will be held at the Al Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and the Jake Gaither Gymnasium. Ronald Foxx, director of women’s basketball operations, serves as the point of contact for families interested in registering.

Gordon emphasizes quality coaching and player development, noting that current FAMU athletes will assist the coaching staff in hands‑on training. The initiative reflects her commitment to growing the game locally while providing a pathway for aspiring athletes.

The camps have already yielded tangible results; Kristen ‘KJ’ Johnson, a standout recruit, signed with FAMU after impressing Gordon with her abilities. FAMU anticipates 40‑50 prospects on campus this weekend and plans to welcome about 100 kids to the ‘Future Rattler’ camp.

Beyond recruitment, the programs aim to strengthen community ties and inspire the next generation of players, reinforcing Florida A&M’s role as a hub for athletic development in the region.
