The University of Tennessee has completed a busy spell in the transfer market, welcoming eight newcomers to the program as it looks to rebuild after a turbulent offseason.
A Strategic Reinforcement for the Vols
Christian Fermin, a sophomore who previously starred for VCU, arrives with one year of eligibility remaining and a record of career‑high scoring and rebounding.
During his sophomore campaign he posted averages of 5.2 points and four rebounds per game, numbers that could prove vital as the Volunteers replace three departing power forwards — J.P. Estrella, Jaylen Carey and Cade Phillips — who left the roster via the portal.
Coach Rick Barnes has emphasized the need for size and versatility, and Fermin’s skill set aligns with the tactical adjustments the staff is planning for the upcoming season.
The move also places Tennessee alongside other notable programs that have leveraged the portal, such as Michigan, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, VCU, Missouri and Texas A&M, all of which have made significant roster upgrades in recent weeks.
