Pella Softball Splits, Baseball Teams Drop Doubleheaders to Oskaloosa

Late‑inning heroics and early leads slip away as Dutch squads head into tonight's Indianola showdown

The Pella Dutch softball team opened its doubleheader against Oskaloosa with a dominant 9‑1 performance, showcasing disciplined hitting and solid pitching.

A rally for the ages

The second game swung dramatically in the final innings, as the Dutch rallied to tie the contest before sealing an 11‑10 victory. Lucy Carlson tied the game with a hit in the bottom of the eighth, and Riley Parks capped the comeback with a walk‑off single.

Key contributors included Katie Scheckel, who launched a home run in the opening game, and Madi Keske, who added a homer in the nightcap.

Baseball setbacks

The Pella baseball team traveled to Oskaloosa for its own doubleheader, dropping both games 5‑4 and 14‑13. The matches were moved to Oskaloosa due to Pella’s turf field, and despite a 6‑2 lead in the second contest, the Dutch could not hold the advantage as Oskaloosa scored the winning runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Teagan Hoekstra delivered a home run and three runs batted in during the first baseball game, while Hayes Lautenbach added a solo homer. In the second game Hoekstra hit a second homer and a triple, and Carter Gilmer, Lautenbach and Cole Koeppen each collected two hits.
