A Fresh Coaching Direction for ROCORI
Connor Schoborg, a 27‑year‑old graduate of ROCORI High School, was officially hired as the program’s new head coach on June 8, 2026, succeeding Tyler Barker, who stepped down to pursue a teaching position in the Maple Grove School District.
Schoborg’s basketball pedigree runs deep. He starred as a point guard for the Spartans, earning three All‑Central Lakes Conference honors, and later played at St. John’s University before returning to the Twin Cities area as a business education teacher within the ROCORI district.
Mentors and Community Support
Nate Guetter, Schoborg’s former coach and now top assistant, will be a central figure in the transition, alongside Jason Kron, director of the district’s youth basketball program and a St. Cloud State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. Their combined experience, Schoborg says, will help instill a culture of discipline and positive energy.
The coaching staff also includes returning players such as Eli Guetter, Nolan Kron, Ethan Hellermann, Nolan VanLoy, Blake Kelly and Griffin Viemeister, who are expected to provide leadership on the court while the new regime builds a foundation for long‑term growth.
A Vision for Rebuilding
Schoborg’s plan centers on youth development, emphasizing rigorous practice habits and a commitment to community involvement. He hopes the renewed focus will translate into more wins, with the program’s last winning season coming in 2022‑23.
Beyond the gym, Schoborg stresses the importance of academic excellence and character development, aligning the basketball program with the broader mission of the ROCORI School District and its partners, including St. John’s University and St. Cloud State University.
