The Cardinal Mooney Baseball program celebrated a milestone this week as its varsity squad secured a spot in the OHSAA State Final Four for the first time in school history. The team finished the regular season with a 24-3 record and clinched the Division IV Regional Championship by edging Canton Central Catholic 5-4 in a tightly contested game.
A Historic Moment for the Program
Head Coach Eddie Reese described the achievement as "a culmination of years of hard work and belief" and said the victory has energized the entire school community. Players and staff gathered after the game to reflect on the significance of the milestone and the road ahead.
The Cardinals are set to meet Sandusky Perkins in the Division IV State Semifinals on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at 717 Credit Union Park in Akron. The matchup will determine which team advances to the championship game, where the winner will face the champion of the other semifinal between Lancaster Fairfield Union and Franklin Bishop Fenwick.
Senior Jonathan Brenner, a key contributor in the regional final, emphasized the team's resolve, stating that the players are "laser‑focused on bringing a trophy home" and that the experience has only deepened their commitment to excellence.
Ryan Reese, another senior on the roster, added that the squad has been preparing for this moment since they first picked up a bat as youngsters, and the chance to compete at the state level feels like the reward for years of dedication.
