A Tradition of Excellence
St. Augustine’s boys basketball program, under longtime coach Rodrigo Romo, has become synonymous with winning. Since Romo took the helm in 2003, the Knights have captured 12 district titles, a testament to a culture built on continuity and community.
The 2026‑27 campaign marks the team’s pursuit of a third straight district championship, a goal that drives every practice and game. Romo has designed a demanding pre‑district schedule, using those contests to test lineups, build confidence and fine‑tune the chemistry that will be crucial when district play begins.
Key returnees include rising senior Ramon Zertuche, who averaged 16.2 points last season and is working to attack the rim more aggressively, and junior Ryan Trevino, who posted 10.1 points and seven rebounds while earning a reputation for basketball IQ and toughness.
Adamm Mireles, a versatile role player, will continue to defend, rebound, shoot threes and help break presses, providing the depth needed for a deep run. The departure of Mikey Barron, who averaged 22.4 points per game, leaves a scoring void, but the coaching staff believes the blend of experience and emerging talent can fill the gap.
Building Around Youthful Talent
With a roster anchored by underclassmen, the Knights are betting on youthful energy and the continuity of Romo’s system to sustain success despite annual player turnover. The program’s tradition and the players’ malleability give Romo confidence that the team will peak during district play and be ready for the big games in January.
