South Carolina Baseball Names Kevin Schnall Head Coach and Secures Return of Pitcher Parker Marlatt

Veteran staff additions and a senior ace signal a renewed push for SEC contention

A New Era for Gamecocks Baseball

Kevin Schnall, the newly appointed head coach of the University of South Carolina baseball program, has turned his attention to building a competitive staff that can restore the Gamecocks to national relevance.

The staff includes veteran pitching coach Matt Williams, who helped guide Coastal Carolina to a 3.22 team ERA during his tenure, and hitting coach Bill Cilento, a longtime Wake Forest assistant with 17 years of experience developing collegiate hitters.

Also joining the roster are Chad Oxendine, Tyler Shewmaker, Paul Mainieri and Monte Lee, each bringing a blend of playing and coaching expertise that Schnall believes will accelerate the program’s development.

Returning Ace Parker Marlatt

Senior pitcher Parker Marlatt has announced he will return for his final year of eligibility in 2027, bringing a 5.68 ERA and 28 strikeouts from his previous 25 innings of work.

Coach Schnall emphasized that Marlatt’s experience and leadership will be pivotal as the Gamecocks aim to compete in the SEC and beyond.

The assembled coaching cadre brings a mix of proven success and fresh perspective, setting the stage for a season that could redefine the program’s trajectory.
