The Nevada Wolf Pack will meet a coalition of Reno-area police officers in a charity softball showdown on June 13, turning the diamond into a fundraiser for two local causes.
A Game for a Cause
The contest forms the centerpiece of an all‑day "Battle of the Badges" tournament that pits various law‑enforcement units against one another before the headline matchup at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park, scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Kaden Martirano, whose baseball pedigree spans high school and college, says the community’s enthusiasm is already palpable. Graduate defensive lineman Tanner Vaughan adds that his team is eager to defend the rubber match after a 2024 win for the players and a 2025 victory for the officers.
Junior quarterback Luke Duncan echoes the excitement, noting that the event is a chance to bring neighbors together while the program prepares for its third year under Coach Jeff Choate, a period he describes as crucial for building team cohesion.
Proceeds from ticket sales and related activities will benefit Northern Nevada Concerns of Police Survivors and the Nevada Trauma Intervention Program, organizations that provide support to families of fallen officers and individuals coping with trauma.
