The Akron Zips opened their matchup against the Miami (OH) RedHawks with a modest start, but the contest quickly swung in favor of the visitors.
Early Lead, Then a Turnaround
A timely RBI single by Brody Chrisman in the first inning gave Akron a 1-0 edge, yet the RedHawks answered with a burst of offense that would define the rest of the game.
The Zips found their rhythm in the fifth, plating three runs highlighted by Easton Amundson’s two‑run homer that briefly shifted momentum.
However, the RedHawks erupted for seven runs in the final inning, pulling away to a 17‑6 victory and leaving Akron with a long night on the mound.
Kelton Phillips was the most consistent hitter for Akron, collecting three hits, while Amundson added a home run and two RBIs. Blake Bowen also contributed a solo homer, and John Allen took the loss after a solid start. Landon Vandegrift worked six innings, allowing only two runs on three hits.
Despite a 2‑for‑6 showing with runners in scoring position, the Zips could not recover, underscoring the need for more clutch hitting as the season progresses.
