Summer Circuit Signals New Era for Edwardsville Tigers
As the summer heat settles over southwestern Illinois, the Edwardsville boys basketball program is already in motion, gearing up for the 2026‑27 campaign with a slate of league games and practices that will test the squad in new ways.
Coach Dustin Battas has outlined a clear vision: the returning duo of Rowan Weller and Matthew Wilson will form the backbone of the team, while the coaching staff works to blend their experience with the energy of newcomers.
Building Around Proven Talent
Both players saw significant minutes last season, with Weller averaging 11.2 points and Wilson contributing 7.6, and each is expected to shoulder a larger offensive load as the roster reshapes itself after losing three starters.
The departure of All‑State guard Miccah Butler, sharpshooter Brady Niemi and interior anchor Devyon Hill‑Lomax leaves sizable shoes to fill, but the coaching staff believes the remaining core can sustain the team’s competitive edge.
New Faces and Fresh Energy
Adding to the mix, senior transfer Carson Barone arrives from Father McGivney, and sophomore Zeek Brown brings experience from De Smet, while rising senior Sire Borden and juniors Michael Donald and Jalyn Nguyen are slated to take stepped forward in production.
The Tigers will test themselves across a series of road trips that include stops in Bethalto, Centralia, Normal West, Vianney and St. Charles West, providing a rigorous schedule that mirrors the speed and physicality of varsity play.
A highlight of the summer will be the NCAA Live Showcase hosted by Edwardsville from June 26‑28, a three‑day event that utilizes the program’s allotted 20 contact days under IHSA rules and offers national exposure.
Beyond the on‑court work, the team is focused on integrating new talent, adjusting to faster tempos and building chemistry that can translate into a strong start when the regular season begins.
