Summer Camp Recap
The Cross County Lady Thunderbirds basketball team spent several days in Pangburn, Arkansas, taking part in a regional summer camp that gathered several local squads for drills, scrimmages and team‑building exercises. The camp provided a rare opportunity for the players to face off against different styles of play and to fine‑tune fundamentals in a competitive yet supportive environment.
During the camp the Lady Thunderbirds recorded a 1‑2 record. Their lone victory came against the host school, Pangburn, where the team executed a balanced offensive attack and pulled away in the second half. Losses to West Side Greers Ferry and Bismarck were close, with the team falling just short in both contests despite showing flashes of strong defensive pressure and improved ball movement.
Mixed Results on the Court
Coach Kyle James noted that the outcomes reflected both promise and areas needing work. The win over Pangburn demonstrated the team's ability to execute set plays and capitalize on fast‑break opportunities, while the defeats highlighted the need for greater consistency on the perimeter and tighter rebounding against more physically imposing opponents.

“We’re seeing real progress in terms of chemistry and confidence,” Coach James said after the final day of camp. “The girls are buying into the system, and the competition we faced was exactly the kind of challenge we needed to grow. I’m proud of how they responded to adversity and how they lifted each other up throughout the camp.”
Looking Ahead
With the summer camp experience in the books, the Lady Thunderbirds are set to carry the lessons learned into the upcoming season. Coach James emphasized that the focus will be on building on the positive moments, tightening up the areas that proved costly, and using the momentum from the camp to fuel a strong push in the regular schedule.
