North Carolina State’s baseball program has secured a highly regarded transfer catcher, Andrew Raymond, from Mississippi State. The move comes as the Wolfpack look to reinforce a position that lost freshman Vincent DeCarlo to the professional ranks, and Raymond arrives with a proven track record of offensive production and solid defensive work.
During the 2026 campaign Raymond posted a .348 batting average across 54 plate appearances, slugging .543 while reaching base at a .444 clip. He added two home runs, three doubles and nine RBIs, underscoring his ability to drive in runs and stretch rallies.
Defensively, the Maryland native has demonstrated consistency, posting a .993 fielding percentage at Mississippi State in the most recent season and a .980 mark during his freshman year at George Mason. Over his first two collegiate seasons he committed only eight errors, a modest total that reflects his steady hands behind the plate.
A Strategic Boost for the Wolfpack
Raymond’s arrival is expected to create a competitive environment in the catching rotation. Returning players Drew Lanphere and Preston Bonn are slated to return next season, providing depth and pushing for starting roles. Coach Drew Lanphere has voiced confidence that Raymond’s blend of power and poise will elevate the team’s overall competitiveness.
The addition also aligns with the program’s broader recruiting strategy, linking the Wolfpack with established collegiate programs such as George Mason and Mississippi State. Both institutions have confirmed the transfer, and their official websites list the move among recent roster updates.
