A Fresh Start for the Rebels
Groves High School announced the hiring of Howard Jordan as its new head football coach, marking a decisive move after Calvin Wells stepped down following a 0‑10 campaign in 2025.
Jordan, 36, arrives after a decade of assistant work at Westside High School and a stint as defensive coordinator, where he helped guide Irwin County High School to consecutive state titles in 2019 and 2020.
Though this will be his first head‑coaching role in football, Jordan has also overseen track and wrestling programs, bringing a versatile tactical mindset to the Rebels.
The Rebels have not posted a winning record since the 2014‑15 season, a drought that has left the program searching for a spark; Jordan’s appointment is seen as the catalyst for ending that slump.
Looking Ahead
Next season, Groves will compete in GHSA 5A Region 1, and the team is slated to open the 2026‑27 campaign at home on August 21 against Islands at 7:30 p.m., a game that could set the tone for the new era.
Jordan expressed confidence that his experience and the fresh regional alignment will give the Rebels the competitive edge needed to break past recent obstacles, with the ultimate goal of restoring a culture of winning in the school’s football tradition.
