Xavier University has tapped Ari Wideman to bolster its women's basketball coaching staff, appointing her as an assistant coach. The move comes as the program looks to build on recent momentum and deepen its talent pipeline.
Wideman arrives with eight years of hands‑on coaching experience across several mid‑major programs. She previously served as head coach at Cal State Bakersfield before moving into assistant roles at Toledo, Arkansas State, San Jose State, and Prairie View A&M, where she also handled recruiting coordination.
During her tenure at Toledo in the 2023‑24 season, Wideman helped the Rockets to a 28‑win campaign and a Mid‑American Conference title. At Arkansas State she guided the team to the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals, and she coached Izzy Higginbottom to Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year honors in 2023.
Her developmental impact is further illustrated by the rise of Chrishawn Coleman, who earned All‑Big West honors under Wideman’s guidance in the 2025‑26 season. These achievements reflect a knack for elevating player performance and preparing athletes for conference recognition.
Academic Background and Playing Roots
Wideman’s basketball journey began at Nevada, where she played from 2010 to 2014 and finished among the program’s all‑time leaders in assists and free‑throw percentage. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Nevada and a master’s in educational leadership from Prairie View A&M.
The new Xavier staff member also brings a strong academic foundation that aligns with the university’s emphasis on student‑athlete success. Her blend of scholarly insight and on‑court expertise positions her to contribute meaningfully beyond the practice floor.
