Sacramento’s Indoor Soccer Revival Takes Shape Ahead of 2026 World Cup

A privately funded arena in Rancho Cordova will host major‑league teams starting in 2027, weaving sports, entertainment and community into the region's fabric

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup will showcase more than just global football; a specially produced commercial will highlight the Sacramento region’s long‑awaited return to major‑league indoor soccer, a sport that has deep roots in the area’s athletic history.

A modern arena in Rancho Cordova

Plans call for a 10,000‑capacity venue on the corner of Kilgore Road and Trade Center Drive in Rancho Cordova. The arena will feature 7,500 fixed seats and is slated to welcome two Major Arena Soccer League franchises beginning in 2027. Its design incorporates a flexible layout that can later accommodate a range of additional amenities.

Beyond the playing surface, the project envisions a mixed‑use campus that could eventually include residential units, hotels, retail outlets, restaurants, a card room, and even the city’s first movie theater and bowling alley. Such an expansion would transform the site into a year‑round destination that draws visitors from across the region.

Ownership and community vision

The ownership group is led by local developer Joshua Wood, who is joined by Charanjeet Kaur Tiwana‑Purewal of the real estate firm KozPure. They are complemented by minority investors Caleb Kwong and Mark Daya. Tiwana‑Purewal has emphasized that the venture seeks to bring professional arena soccer back to Sacramento while honoring the city’s soccer legacy, and Wood has spoken of using sports, entertainment and community events to bring people together.

Rancho Cordova City Manager Micah Runner expressed the city’s enthusiasm for becoming the new home of soccer in the region, noting that the arena project will be reviewed by the Planning Commission this summer, with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for the same period.

The commercial’s timing aligns with the 2026 World Cup, which will be staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada, concluding on July 19. Six matches are slated for Northern California, including the first of those games at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, set for noon on Saturday, underscoring the region’s growing role on the international sports stage.
