A New Era for the Dons
The University of San Francisco’s men’s basketball program has announced the signing of guard Abdul Bashir, a standout scorer who has been generating buzz across the college recruiting landscape.
Bashir, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, arrives after two seasons at Casper College where he posted an average of more than 27 points per game and earned NJCAA Division I second‑team All‑American honors.
Sharpshooting Threat
His scoring prowess was on full display when he erupted for a career‑high 49 points against Laramie Community College, a performance that helped him top the 2024‑25 NJCAA leaderboard with 131 three‑pointers made.
Before his collegiate career, Bashir honed his game at Colorado Prep in Westminster, Colorado, before moving on to Auburn University before transferring to Casper.
Off the court, Bashir hails from a Somali‑American family and shares his journey with his twin brother Abdi, who previously played at Monmouth and Kansas State before committing to Louisiana State University.
Chris Gerlufsen, the head coach of the Dons, highlighted Bashir’s all‑around skill set, noting that his shooting range and ability to create his own shot will add a new dimension to the team’s offense.
The program believes Bashir’s arrival could be a catalyst for a competitive season, as the Dons look to blend his scoring with their existing roster and tactical approach.
