West Texas A&M announced that Kaden Hooker will join the men's basketball program for the 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the university's intent to bolster its roster with a proven leader.
A standout from the Panhandle
Hooker arrives after a high school career at West Plains High School where he was named District 4‑4A Player of the Year and earned TABC All‑State honors. Over his senior season he averaged 15.3 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent from three‑point range, hit 89.4 percent of his free throws and dished out 4.3 assists per game.
West Plains head coach Kendall Cogburn praised Hooker for his high character and relentless work ethic, noting that the player’s leadership helped the team to an undefeated district title and a Class 4A Division I state semifinal berth.
Beyond basketball, Hooker has excelled in football and baseball at the 4A level, demonstrating the versatility and competitive spirit that coaches say will translate to the collegiate game.
Coach Tom Brown described Hooker as a competitor, a leader and a young man who knows what it takes to win, expressing confidence that the recruit will contribute immediately both on and off the court.
