Satsuma High School in Alabama has announced Jason Phillips as its new head football coach for the 2026 season, tapping a coach whose recent work at Flomaton Excel High School earned him a reputation as a program builder.
Phillips, who also served as athletic director at Flomaton Excel, compiled a 27‑25 record over five seasons and guided the Eagles to a 9‑2 finish in his second year, a turnaround that caught the attention of the Satsuma athletic department.
A Turnaround Coach
He will replace Rodney Jordan, whose four‑year stint produced a 13‑26 record, including back‑to‑back 5‑5 seasons in 2023 and 2024, and left the Gators with a 2‑7 record and a No. 272 ranking in the 2025 Alabama High School Football Massey Rankings.
Satsuma High School, part of the Satsuma City School System that has operated independently since 2012, emphasizes a balanced focus on academics, athletics and the arts, aiming to develop students who are ready for both college and career pathways.
The upcoming season will be a test of whether Phillips can translate his success at a smaller program to a larger stage, but early indications suggest the school believes his offensive mindset and community engagement will help restore confidence in the football program.
Phillips is known for emphasizing discipline, community involvement and a balanced offensive scheme, traits that align with the school's broader mission of preparing students for productive citizenship.
The appointment comes as the school looks to leverage its strong local ties and its status as a hub for arts and academics to attract talent, with the hope that a winning football culture will reinforce the institution's overall reputation.
