The Idaho baseball community is celebrating a pair of remarkable achievements as Scotty Tondevold of Orofino and Cole Thompson of Potlatch were recently named the state’s prep baseball coaches of the year.

Tondevold steered Orofino to a 24‑3 record and a state championship, riding a seven‑game winning streak that underscored the team’s resilience and cohesion.

Thompson, in his inaugural season with Potlatch, orchestrated a 24‑2 campaign that culminated in the Idaho Class 2A state title, a feat that highlighted his rapid impact on the program.

Both mentors emphasized that the accolades belong to their players, coaches, and support staff, praising the hard work and dedication that defined their campaigns.

Among the standout performers, Orofino’s Nicholas Bonner posted a .628 on‑base percentage and stole 33 bases, while Jaeger Tondevold led his classification with 42 stolen bases in 43 attempts.

Quinton Naranjo anchored Orofino’s pitching staff with a 0.78 ERA, and Potlatch’s senior Jameson Morris capped his high school career with a complete‑game effort in the championship victory, finishing 4‑0 with a 1.44 ERA and a .169 opponent batting average.

Additional contributors included Trey Magallon, who posted a 1.35 ERA and a .400 batting average, Michael Scalzo, who batted .429 as a freshman, and Jay Marshall, who hit .361, all earning first‑team All‑Idaho honors.

Kendrick’s Ralli Roetcisoender, a multi‑sport standout, secured his sixth all‑state selection across three sports after hitting .494 and posting a 3.14 ERA, while Lewiston’s Cal Robbins represented the Bengals on the Class 5A All‑Idaho second team.

The recognition extends beyond individual accolades, reflecting a season in which Idaho’s high school baseball landscape showcased depth, competitive balance, and a bright future for the sport.

A season of milestones

The championships not only added trophies to the schools’ histories but also set new benchmarks for future teams aiming to emulate such excellence.
