The University of Georgia announced the addition of right‑handed pitcher Cooper Walls through the transfer portal, a move that underscores the Bulldogs’ aggressive rebuilding after a historic 2026 campaign that saw them capture the College World Series title.
Walls, a 6‑foot‑5 flame‑thrower, brings a blend of size and velocity that has long been a hallmark of Georgia’s pitching staff. Though his stint with the Florida Gators was marred by inconsistency, the program believes the former Big West freshman pitcher of the year can rediscover his form under new leadership.
During his lone season at Hawaii, Walls posted a 3.73 earned run average and struck out 45 batters across 15 starts, earning Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors in 2025. The following year with Florida proved more challenging, as he logged a 7.17 ERA over 17 appearances, but the raw talent remained evident.
The Bulldogs have already secured another arm in the portal, left‑hander Luke Howe from Long Beach State, and Walls represents the second pitcher to commit this offseason. Both newcomers are expected to compete for starting roles as Georgia seeks to maintain its dominance in the SEC.
