NASCAR has shifted the Pocono Raceway event to an early afternoon start, moving the green flag to 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday. The change comes as meteorologists forecast late‑afternoon thunderstorms that could jeopardize the completion of the 400‑mile, 160‑lap event.
The adjustment was made possible by Prime Video, the series’ broadcast partner, which has the flexibility to shift the schedule by more than an hour. Alongside the video feed, fans will be able to follow the action on MRN Radio, HBO Max and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Why the early start matters
The earlier slot is designed to give competitors and spectators the best chance to finish the full distance before the threat of rain intensifies in the evening. Pocono’s distinctive three‑turn layout, one of the most unique circuits on the Cup schedule, adds an extra layer of strategy to the competition.
Denny Hamlin, fresh off victories at Michigan International Speedway and Nashville Superspeedway, is expected to be a front‑runner in the 16th points‑paying event of the 2026 season. His recent momentum could make him a key contender as the series moves into its summer stretch.
Beyond Hamlin, the rest of the field hopes to carry forward the energy generated during the summer portion of the schedule, using the Pocono race as a springboard for the final stretch of the championship battle.
