Trey Austin has been named the new head coach of the Thiel College Men’s Basketball program, taking over a storied program that has seen decades of leadership under Tim Loomis.
Austin arrives after a transformative ten‑year stint at Penn State Fayette, where he turned a 7‑18 team into a 12‑10 contender and guided the program to its first postseason appearance in more than ten years.
Building a Championship Culture
At Penn State Fayette, Austin’s teams averaged 77.5 points per game and dished out 16.6 assists per contest, a pace that reflected his emphasis on fast‑break execution and ball movement.
His success was not limited to wins; the program cultivated a pipeline of talent, with dozens of players advancing to Division I, II and III levels through his AAU network and skill‑development business.
Austin’s coaching journey also includes three seasons as an assistant at Frostburg State University, where the Bobcats captured a Mountain East Conference Championship Tournament berth in his final year.
He holds a master’s degree in Recreation, Parks and Sports Management from Frostburg State and a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, grounding his approach in both academic rigor and practical experience.
Now at Thiel, Austin succeeds Tim Loomis, who retired after two decades at the helm, and inherits a roster poised for resurgence as the college seeks to blend tradition with a fresh, player‑centric philosophy.
