A New Era for Santa Barbara Soccer
Michael Hannon has been appointed executive director of the Santa Barbara Soccer Club, bringing a distinguished coaching pedigree that spans continents and competition levels. Originally from Swansea, Wales, Hannon arrives after stints that included leadership roles at 1974 Newark FC and Oakland Roots SC, as well as extensive work within NCAA divisions I through III.
His vision centers on elevating the club’s brand, forging clear player pathways and deepening ties with families and the broader community. “Enhancing the club’s brand and making it a destination for soccer is a priority,” Hannon said, emphasizing communication, trust and long‑term growth.
Priorities on and off the Pitch
Hannon’s approach to youth soccer places player development above immediate results, a philosophy he honed while coaching across collegiate and youth environments. He plans to explore facility access and membership growth to support sustainable expansion, while also spending dedicated time with athletes, coaches and families to nurture a sense of belonging.
Sheralyn Baltes, president of the board of directors, praised Hannon’s leadership, noting his proven track record in club membership growth and his commitment to creating pathways for athletes. “His experience and community‑focused mindset align perfectly with our aspirations,” she said.
Hannon will officially begin his role on July 1, marking the start of a tenure that promises to blend strategic brand development with grassroots engagement.
