Following a disappointing loss in the NCAA Super Regionals to end the 2025 campaign, the Auburn Tigers baseball program is turning to the transfer portal to rebuild for the 2026 season. The portal window, which runs through the end of June, offers a narrow opportunity for the Tigers to plug gaps left by a mass exodus of talent.
The departures have been significant. Six players from the 2026 roster have entered the portal, chief among them center‑fielder Bristol Carter, who started 44 games and appeared in 48 contests last year. Pitcher Mason Koch was the first to announce his exit on June 10, having posted a 5‑1 record, six saves and 60 strikeouts for Creighton Blue Jays in 2024.
Key Additions
Among the new faces, Zach Stevens brings a 2.53 ERA from South Alabama to the pitching rotation, while John Beverley, a Georgia State alumnus, arrives as an aggressive leadoff hitter who stole 32 bases in 2026. Both are expected to inject depth and experience into a staff that lost several regulars.
The portal also saw the departures of three additional pitchers—Saxon Roberts, Trevor Booten and Justice de Jong—while top Alabama high school prospect Wade Shelley, ranked No. 4 in the state, has elected to test the market, further reshaping the roster.
Coaching staff members are evaluating the incoming and outgoing pieces to craft a lineup capable of contending for a College World Series berth. With the portal deadline looming, Auburn’s strategy hinges on blending proven performers with fresh talent as the Tigers aim to restore their national relevance.
