A Reclamation Project for Arkansas Pitching
Arkansas baseball announced the addition of right‑handed reliever Brayden Krenzel, a Tennessee transfer who will join the Razorbacks' pitching staff for the upcoming season. The commitment was made public on Saturday, June 13, and marks the fourth new pitcher to sign with the program this offseason.
Krenzel first rose to prominence as a freshman in 2025, posting a 4.68 ERA and recording 41 strikeouts across 32 ⅔ innings. That performance earned him the top ranking among Ohio prospects by Perfect Game, a scouting service that has followed his development since high school.
His sophomore year, however, proved more challenging. In 17 ⅓ innings he posted a 9.35 ERA and allowed 2.1 home runs per nine innings, numbers that raised questions about his consistency but also highlighted the raw potential of his two‑pitch mix.
Under the guidance of pitching coach Matt Hobbs, Krenzel is being treated as a reclamation project. Hobbs believes the pitcher’s mid‑90s fastball and mid‑80s slider can be refined to increase effectiveness in relief roles, especially as the Razorbacks continue to search for weekend starters.
The coaching staff envisions Krenzel and the other newcomers primarily in the bullpen, where their experience and pitch repertoire could provide depth in late‑game situations. The program still aims to bolster its starting rotation, but the addition of Krenzel adds a promising arm to the mix.
