Averill Park’s baseball squad captured the Class A state championship on Saturday, routing Plainedge 5-0 in a game that underscored the team’s depth and poise.
A dominant performance on the mound
Fred Bornn delivered a three‑hitter, allowing only infield singles and capping the outing with a strikeout of catcher Jayden Gaghan that sealed the victory.
The team’s defense was flawless, turning every chance into an out, while timely hitting added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before a three‑run burst in the seventh provided insurance.
The triumph came on the same day that Averill Park’s softball team also hoisted a state title, a coincidence that players like George Brooks and Anthony Decker said reflected the program’s culture of preparation and grit.
The win marks the fourth straight championship for the program, extending a streak that began in 2022 and reinforced the community’s pride in a team that consistently rises to the occasion.
