The Routt baseball team saw its season conclude with a 10‑0 loss to North Clay in the third‑place game of the IHSA Class 1A State Final Tournament. The final score reflected a dominant performance by North Clay, who entered the contest having won 35 or more games that year.
A Legacy Forged in Championships
Despite the loss, the team's nine seniors depart with an impressive résumé: four regional titles, four sectional championships, two super‑sectional victories and two appearances at the state tournament. Their achievements have cemented a lasting imprint on the program's history.
Coach Ryan Turner, who also guided his son Brady Turner throughout the year, expressed deep pride in his players' competitive spirit and the lessons they learned along the way. He highlighted the resilience shown by the squad, even when faced with overwhelming odds.
Senior Voices
Brady Turner reflected on the unique bond he shares with his father and the life lessons baseball has taught him, calling the experience "bittersweet" as he bids farewell to high school competition. Bryson Mossman, who will continue his athletic career at Quincy University, voiced pride in the team's accomplishments and the friendships forged during the season. Samuel Long, considering a collegiate baseball future, spoke of the memories and camaraderie that defined his final year.
On the mound, Jacob Brown struggled early, walking five batters and surrendering six runs on three hits before being pulled after one‑and‑one‑third innings. North Clay's ace, Jack Compton, answered with a shutout, limiting Routt to three hits over four‑and‑one‑third innings. The game slipped away in the bottom of the fifth when Routt failed to extend the contest, striking out to end the match.
As the final outs were recorded, the seniors gathered along the third‑base line, awaiting their medals. Coach Turner personally presented the awards, a moment that underscored his pride in both his son Brady and the leadership displayed by the entire group throughout the season.
