App State Baseball surged to a 12-2 victory over Georgia State, a win that locked the Mountaineers into a top-six seed for the Sun Belt tournament and marked their 30th triumph of the season.
Record-Breaking Sun Belt Run
The performance also cemented a program-record 17 Sun Belt wins, underscoring the team’s consistency over the past four years, during which they have posted 30-plus wins in three of those seasons.
Nick DiRito delivered a career-high 11 strikeouts on the mound, while Riley Luft opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning and Tommy Walker added a solo blast in the second. Back-to-back doubles from Jake Mummau and Nico Soul sparked a three-run third, and Charlie Evans’ fourth-inning triple set up Joseph Zamora’s sacrifice fly. Max Tramontana closed the game with four shutout innings and four strikeouts to earn his first career save.
Seventh-Inning Fireworks
The seventh inning brought the highlight of the night when Brooks Wright launched a grand slam — his first collegiate home run — while Ethan Puig followed with an RBI single that capped the scoring.
Looking Ahead to Friday
With the series on the horizon, the Mountaineers are eyeing a seventh Sun Belt series victory on Friday, a milestone that would further solidify their dominance in the conference.
