Opening Night Thriller
The Chicago Wolves opened the Central Division finals with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday night, handing the visitors a tough road test in the first of what promises to be a tightly contested series.
Josiah Slavin became the hero of the night, slipping a decisive goal past Grand Rapids’ netminder in the third period. The tally came after a period of relentless pressure that saw the Wolves outshoot the Griffins 30-23.
Cayden Primeau was a wall between the pipes, turning away 23 of the Griffins’ attempts and preserving the lead when it mattered most. His performance kept Chicago’s defense on the back foot and limited Grand Rapids’ chances to equalize.
Griffins’ Response
Grand Rapids managed to find the back of the net when Eduards Tralmaks capitalized on a scramble in front of the Wolves’ goal, sending a shot that slipped through Primeau’s glove. Despite the goal, the Griffins could not find a second marker.
Michal Postava, the Griffins’ starter, was busy all night, making 30 saves but ultimately surrendering the lead in the third period. His effort kept the game within reach, but the Wolves’ late surge proved decisive.
With the win, Chicago now leads the series 1-0 and will look to extend their advantage when Game 2 arrives on Saturday. The Griffins, meanwhile, will aim to regroup and force a split before returning home.
