Rowan County American Legion Baseball Secures Eighth Consecutive Win

A late rally and solid pitching keep the team poised for a Monday showdown in Wadesboro

Rowan County’s American Legion baseball team posted its eighth straight victory on Saturday, downing Mooresville 9-6 at home.

Although the visitors out-hit Rowan 11-7, the locals capitalized on five stolen bases and seven walks to overcome the early deficit.

Mooresville jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first when Brody Graham delivered a two-run single.

Rowan answered with a four-run bottom of the second, as Brant Graham, Gaige Scruggs, Maddox Moore and Carter Durant each drove in a run.

Moore’s tie-breaking single put Rowan ahead to stay, and Sifford’s shutout innings through the fourth stretched the lead to 9-2.

Key Pitching Performances

Kendal Sifford earned the win, pitching four innings, striking out five and walking just one.

Cameron Williamson, making his first pitching appearance of the summer, closed out the game with six outs, highlighted by a called third strike in the seventh that sealed the victory.

Cole Blevins contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk despite finishing 0-for-1 at the plate.

Drew Pegram was walked twice, stole two bases and scored three runs, while Dawson Bennett’s two RBIs kept Mooresville within striking distance.

The team will enjoy a rare off day on Sunday before traveling to Wadesboro on Monday to face the Tigers.
