Luke Ponczka’s senior year at West Rowan High School will be remembered as one of the most prolific in recent memory, as the team finished 23‑6 and secured a spot in the regional playoffs.
A Record‑Breaking Senior Season
During the campaign he drove in 50 runs, establishing a new program record and leading both his team and the South Piedmont Conference.
The performance earned him selections to the NC Baseball Coaches Association all‑region team, as well as All‑South Piedmont and All‑Rowan County honors.
Career numbers now sit at 10 home runs, 19 doubles and 92 RBIs, reflecting a consistency that has drawn attention from college programs.
Commitment to Guilford Tech
Ponczka announced his intention to play for Guilford Tech, where he will join a squad coached by TJ Wharton, a former player for both Guilford Tech and Catawba College.
Wharton’s connection to the program adds a personal touch, having previously worn the Falcon jersey before moving on to Catawba College.
Guilford Tech competes in Region 10 at the Division II junior‑college level, a tier that has historically funneled talent to Surry Community College, a Division III institution also based in the region.
